JEQ Ramadaan Warehouse Market sponsored by Spice Mecca
Cape Town l 24 March 2022
Ramadaan is the month of the Qu’ran. And what better way than ushering in this sacred month through Quranic recitation and charitable efforts.
It is on this premise that Jam ‘Eyyatul Qurra is hosting their first ever Ramadan Warehouse Market, sponsored by Spice Mecca. The event takes place from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th March 2022 at the Spice Mecca Warehouse at 5 Induland Crescent, Lansdowne.
Entry fee costs just R10 which will go a long way to assisting underprivileged communities this Ramadaan. As part of its ‘Bread from the Heart’ campaign, JEQ students aim to feed needy families with loaves of bread during the month of fasting.
“We’re going into the month of the Qu’ran. Why not support an organization that lives and teaches the Qu’ran,” said Imraan Fakier, Jam ‘Eyyatul Qurra head of operations.
The market is an opportune time for small businesses, which have been crippled by the COVID-19 pandemic. Shoppers can expect a myriad of stalls from Islamic fashion, accessories, books and toys to fresh fruit and vegetables, sweet treats, beverages, hot food and Ramadan essentials.
Ramadaan shoppers can look forward to major give-aways at the Spice Mecca Pavillion, including the pensioners hamper sale. Foodies are in for a visual treat with Spice Mecca’s famous live cooking demos from Shamiela Abass’s popular recipe book ‘My Passport: A Culinary Journey’. And in keeping with traditional Cape Town culture, you can get your fix of warm, syrupy koesisters at the Pavilion on Sunday morning.
Spice Mecca, which has a long association with JEQ, will donate all their proceeds to the organization.
“The aim of this market is to sustainably fund JEQ for the coming year. We’ve made the market accessible to over 50 vendors. And beyond that, the money generated will also support a number of community organisations and sporting clubs. We beseech the community to help us support our community,” said Shreef Abass, Spice Mecca CEO.
Market-goers will also be treated to performances by the Cape Town Seven Steps Minstrels, Madeegha Anders and others.
The event officially opens on Friday 25 March at 3pm.
